The Blank Disc Meditation is
one of those quick practices that I use to get “in the zone” and neutralize
some drama. I had such an event today
and in the middle of my confrontation I was able to hear my opposition but relax
with empathy and calm the situation with my actions toward him and calm my mind
as well. Instead of “competing for the
floor” I gained respect by rising above through calmness. I wasn’t sure about
the outcome during the event but it worked out nicely for all involved. The Aesclepius practice takes more time and I
need a peaceful place to contemplate the event but it gives me confidence and
contentment knowing my wise lord is always there and waiting.

Quick Meditation vs. Visualization of my God
There are two activities that
work for me. One is what I call a Blank
Disc meditation. I can easily start it
by closing my eyes and concentrating on the breath entering and leaving my
nostrils. I’m not going to complicate it
by alternating nostrils though! Simple
is what I’m looking for and I eventually can visualize that blank disc going
round and round which I find much better than counting sheep when I can’t
sleep. The second practice that I enjoy
is the Visualization using an Aesclepius type figure. The presence of God works the best for
me. Since he lives within me it’s easy
to see his greatness and assume his presence and wisdom. It’s peaceful for me and I can talk to him in
prayer without feeling like I’m idolizing some mortal and feeling guilty.

Hello Karen,
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and you are a dynamic person! I too like the Meeting Aesclepius meditation and find it beneficial. It does require a quiet place and a bit of time but I know even on the job I could go outside and sit on a bench during a 10 minute break and visualize my mentor (wise wizard, Higher Power, Jesus) whoever I need to be with me at the time and give me comfort. Sometimes it is my Mom (who passed away in 2008) that I need and visualize. I know what you mean about finding confidence and contentment. Thanks for being you!
Cindy
Hi karen,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your "blank disk" description as a meditation prep and a way to clear your head. simplicity is something which I can relate to and totally appreciate. I like to use the sounds of the ocean or nature as a way to clear my own thoughts and settle myself enough to be able to contemplate things which concern me. I think that it is great that you can turn to your faith as a source of peace and inspiration.
I like the way you put your words, you were able to rise above through calmness. I feel that when I am able to overcome an obstacle and keep my composure I have been able to accomplish more than before. It's like killing someone with kindness forces me to be better when I have seen the results on my physical being and mentally. When I react with anger or respond in stress I feel the effects on my body and the negative energy that it creates.
ReplyDeleteI guess my meditation technique at night is more of the blank disc. I clear everything out and focus on my breathing. Then I am able to focus on my prayers that I do right after.
ReplyDeleteKaren,
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blogs, as they always give me some great ideas to work from. I also enjoy your passion for life and your passion for God. I love your blank disc meditation idea. I think I will give that a try. I too, like to use God as a visualization because it seems only natural since I am continually talking to Him throughout the day anyway. He brings me the calm I need in any situation. You and I seem alot alike. I wish I knew you in person. Your blog has helped me to feel I know you. I think in those situations of stress as you mentioned in your post, it is God who reminds us to calm down and back up and see the situation in a different light. Thanks for always cheering me up with your posts.
That's the hard part about these classes when we live so far apart and can't get together. That would be fun I'm sure. You have such great stories and strength. I tend to forget I'm posting to a blog and many personal things I'd rather not share to the public. I'm trying to be honest as it helps with personal growth. If you're ever in San Diego you better look me up!
ReplyDeleteHi, Karen!
ReplyDeleteGreat post on your blog, you always sound so great in discussion as well. I really like the meditation that you mentioned "Blank Disc Meditation" that sounds really easy and something we can all probably try, and use. I really like to follow breathing techniques, thern focusing on some of the ereas in which I am most vulnerable to and visualizing what or how I can look at them as a learning curve. There is a positive to every negative!
Hi Karen,
ReplyDeleteI have also chosen "Meditation" as one of my favorite practices, because it is like a self-review not to become the worst of yourself, but to have a non-bias analysis of yourself and see the plain truth, and take positive resolutions toward changes.
great Post.
